CCS Middle School Students Care . . .
"Calvary Cares" Day

CCS 6th grade students participated in community service as part of the recent "Calvary Cares" day. The students were divided into two groups.

The first group visited Hamilton House Nursing Home where they met with residents, played games and exercised with them. The girls painted ladies' fingernails and the boys performed an impromptu song for the residents. The visit put smiles on their faces and meant alot to the men and women of Hamilton House.

The middle school "all-select" chorus had well over 400 middle school choir members from Muscogee County and surrounding areas. CCS Middle School Thanks Scout Troup!

The middle school got a face lift on May 9, when Mason Burton and his scout troup spent the day installing benches to the front of the building. Mason completed the work as a part of his service requirement for his Eagle Scout badge.

Mason chose this project because he wanted to give back to his school before leaving middle school for high school. Thank you Mason and the scouts for a job well done!.

Choirs Receive Superior Ratings from GMEA

Congratulations to the high school and middle school choirs who recently partcipated in the GMEA Music Festival held at First Baptist Church in Columbus. Directed by Choral Director Chris Waterstraat, both groups scored "superior" ratings from the judges for both performance and sight-reading. This is the highest score possible. "This is really a wonderful accomplishment for them, considering the difficulties they have had this year," said
former CCS Choral Director Judy Meeks who is now in Arkansas. "Chris Waterstraat did an excellent job as their director, especially since it was his first time to take any groups to an evaluation."

"We are very proud of the students and appreciate Mr. Waterstraat's hard work," commented Angie Bacon of the elementary music department.

Congratulations to our Middle School All-State chorus participants. The Georgia Music Educators All-State choruses rehearsed March 2-4, in preparation for the final concert which was Saturday, March 4, in Savannah.

Brad Williams and Chad Aycock performed in the GMEA All-State Middle School Mixed Chorus, under the direction of Ken Berg. Michelle Saucier and Emily Simoneau performed in the All-State Middle School Women's Chorus whose conductor was Marie Stultz. Both groups rehearsed for 17 hours in Savannah before the final concert in the Savannah Civic Center.

To become a member of these elite groups, the students had to pass two auditions with the highest of scores. The auditions included testing in sight-reading, tonal memory, scales, and performance of both a solo selection and all of the required all-state selections. Our CCS students had some of the highest scores in the state, and we are very proud of them for both their talent and their hard work to achieve this honor.
