Notice 2 Recent Updates:

CREDIT REQUIREMENTS FOR CLASS OF 2011

In compliance with the state of Georgia’s graduation requirements, Calvary graduates will be required to have four (4) credits of science for a college preparatory diploma. Therefore, the total credits required for graduation increases from 25 to 26. In addition, geography (a semester class) is a requirement and will count as an academic elective (.5) credit. This policy is effective with the Class of 2011.

CREDIT REQUIREMENTS FOR SENIORS
(Effective 2008-2009)

All seniors must register for six (6) courses including a minimum of four (4) core courses. Other courses may include electives such as art, choir, weight training, yearbook, teacher/office assistant, and/or study hall (no credit). Seniors who hold a job and work after school may register for five (5) courses instead of six (6) as long as their graduation requirements are met and the school has a work permit on file. Also, students enrolled in dual credit courses may, also, be considered as an exception and allowed to register for only five (5) courses if they need to leave school early to attend classes.

South African Students Visit CCS Campus

Calvary Christian School hosted five high school students from South Africa April 14 - 18. These students were in the United States to attend an ACSI Leadership Conference being held in Orlando, Florida. The entire group that landed at Hartsfield Jackson International consisted of 25 students from Doxa Deo School in Pretoria, South Africa, which is about 35 miles from Johannesburg.

The students arrived a week early to spend time in local Christian schools around the state as a cultural experience. One highlight that impressed each of the students in Columbus was the “southern hospitality” that was been shown by students, teachers, and host families alike. The South African students expressed their surprise at how quickly and easily close friendships developed. They spoke in elementary, middle, and high school classes throughout the week.

The students also had the opportunity to visit many sites around the area such as the Riverwalk, Columbus Museum, Callaway Gardens, lots of shopping, and dining out. In addition, they were our guests at the CCS Junior/Senior Banquet.

Each of the students said they loved Columbus and wanted to stay longer. They left with many email addresses and plans to stay in touch. The visit was a very positive experience for all.

"Expelled" Ticket Stub Fundraiser

The sophomore class is collecting ticket stubs from recently released motion picture "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed" as
a fundraiser to raise funds for next year's Junior/Senior.

The movie, hosted by Ben Stein, and is an expose of the prevailing mentality in the world of science and education that shuts out knowledge, research and personnel who point to the Intelligent Design evidence for creation. The film reveals current research that provides strong evidence that Someone who has planned events and structures in our planet that could not have randomly come into existence.

"I have seen the movie and it is a very thought-provoking work on a subject about which we definitely need to be informed," says CCS Headmaster Len McWilliams. "It is not entertainment, but it is powerful in its implications. I would encourage all parents and midddle school through high school students to view it."

Each ticket stub is worth cash to the sophomore class. If you see the movie, please save your ticket stubs and donate them to the sophomore class. In order for the class to receive credit, you must see the film within two weeks of its release.

"Latrevo" Performs at Cinderella's Castle

The high school chorus, Latrevo, recently returned from Orlando, Florida, where they participated in "Singbration."

This choral event included 320 participants from across the U.S. and Brazil. The students practiced many hours prior to their arrival and then many more hours once they got to Orlando. The group paraded down Main Street at Walt Disney World and performed at Cinderella's Castle.

The students also collected items and prepared care packages for families at the local Ronald McDonald Houses. They also enjoyed vocal workshops with the a cappella group, Toxic Audio, on two occasions.

"We are very proud of Latrevo and the wonderful job they did. They represented Calvary Christian School well," said Angie Bacon.

CCS Alumni Panel Gives Advice

CCS sponsored its Annual College Panel on Friday, January 4. Each year the current Senior class invites a panel of last year's graduates to a luncheon and question and answer session.

This year Amy Brown (Treveca University), Lola Obebe (Auburn University), Ali Rieger (Mercer University) and Sarah Moon (employed full-time and preparing for CSU in the Fall) made up the panel of alumni. After lunch the graduates shared highlights of their "after Calvary" experiences and answered questions from students and faculty. All agreed they had been well-prepared for life after high school. All met challenges in the use of time and finances, but they agreed that they enjoy their college and work experience. They also all felt they were prepared well spiritually to know and defend their faith.

After meeting with the Senior class, the girls shared with the Freshmen class. Advice to the freshmen included taking their high school academics seriously, developing a good work ethic, valuing their friendships, appreciating their classmates, and putting less emphasis on dating relationships in high school.
