Preschool & Elementary Art Update
From Mrs. Harris

We have been so excited to be back in art class learning about mixing our primary and secondary colors to create color wheels. Also, your children are exploring new ways of drawing, focusing on parts that make up the visual whole of a picture. The children are having fun seeing their lines coming together to make some beautiful drawings.

Fall activities have included the younger students modeling pumpkins out of Model Magic while the older students have enjoyed forming their own "pets" out of clay. Our 3rd and 4th graders enjoyed watching their fruit and vegetable collages come together.

As you can see, we are very busy creating and having lots of fun in Art class.

Elementary Students Featured in Publication

Several CCS elementary girls were recently featured for their fundraising efforts in the Fall 2006 issue of Hopegivers Journal, a publication of Hopegivers International.

Last year, several girls in Mrs. Ferguson's fourth grade class raised $129 to help the orphans of Hopegivers International. The girls spent hours making bracelets, pinwheels and crafts, which they sold to school staff, family and friends to benefit the abandoned children. Their donation was enough to house, feed, clothe and educate four needy children for an entire month in a "Hope Home."

The photo features the girls standing with Dr. Bill Bray, Hopegivers' Development Director.

CCS Collects Buckets of Pop Tabs for Ronald McDonald House!!

Photo submitted by Alicia Fowler

Calvary Christian School has been collecting "pop tabs" this school year to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. During the month of April, elementary classes competed to see who could collect the most filled buckets of pop tabs. Three of the classes tied for first place by collecting 8 buckets each. The prize was extra fun time in the computer lab.

Calvary’s first grade students were very excited to have the opportunity to tour the Ronald McDonald House recently. They were able to hand-deliver the pop tabs collected by the school and witness first-hand the results of their efforts. They were amazed at the outstanding service the Ronald McDonald House provides to families with children in need of medical attention. Afterwards, they enjoyed lunch and playtime at a local McDonald’s restaurant.

Thanks to everyone collected and donated their pop tabs this year. Please continue to save your pop tabs over the Summer. CCS will continue to collect them next school year.

"Thanksgiving" Food Drive and Feast

The CCS elementary school collected money for a "Thanksgiving Food Drive" to help families who are less fortunate. CCS elementary students brought in money to purchase food items for the families of children they "adopted" from the Little Blessings Nurturing Center.

Each classroom posted photos of four students that attend the center that they adopted and invited them over on November 22, to be a part of a special Thanksgiving celebration. "It is my desire to instill a love for charitable giving in the students at Calvary," said Elementary Principal Steve Pate.

"Safety Patrol" on Patrol

You may have recently noticed on campus several students sporting bright green uniforms and hats around the elementary school in the mornings and afternoons...these are members of the newly established "Safety Patrol" on the CCS campus.

The Safety Patrol is made up of 5th grade students who were nominated by the teachers on the basis of leadership ability and dependability, and selected by Elementary Principal Steve Pate.

The daily duties of the safety patrol include greeting, opening doors for, and monitoring students in the mornings and afternoons at various locations on campus.

"By providing positive reinforcement, the students of the Safety Patrol are also encouraging best behavior," says Mr. Pate.
