"Latrevo" Performs at Cinderella's Castle

The high school chorus, Latrevo, recently returned from Orlando, Florida, where they participated in "Singbration"

This choral event included 320 participants from across the U.S. and Brazil. The students practiced many hours prior to their arrival and then many more hours once they got to Orlando. The group paraded down Main Street at Walt Disney World and performed at Cinderella's Castle.

The students also collected items and prepared care packages for families at the local Ronald McDonald Houses. They also enjoyed vocal workshops with the a cappella group, Toxic Audio, on two occasions.

"We are very proud of Latrevo and the wonderful job they did. They represented Calvary Christian School well," said Angie Bacon.

Several CCS students were selected to represent Calvary Christian School in the GMEA Honor Chorus held at Hardaway High School in January. The concert featured a 90-voice middle school chorus and a 60 voice high school chorus. The students participated in extensive rehearsals and worked with guest clinician Doyle Register. Congratulations to all of our students.

Visual Arts Announcements

Posted 10/12/07

For more information about what all of our visual arts classes (preschool, elementary, middle school, and high school) are doing this year, visit the Visual Arts web page.

Back to School Night

We had Back to School Night on September 18, and we
would like to thank all of the parents that came out to see
what we were doing in art class. We discussed our class syllabus, supplies, and went over the art projects that we
had done to-date.

What can you do to help our art classes at CCS?
  • Show interest in your students’ artwork and come to events when we will be displaying their work.
  • We are always in need of magazines to use
for art projects and old art books to use for example images.
  • When we have a still life project, we will occasionally need to borrow still life objects  (i.e. old animal bones and skulls, old vases, etc.). If you have any objects similar to those above, that you would allow the art program to borrow or that you would like to donate, please let us know.

In the Spotlight . . .

Under the direction of our new Choral Director Tommy Newman, the high school and middle school choirs performed together for the CCS Annual Fund Banquet September 27.

The students sang Go Light Your World and Hand in Hand to a crowd of over 600 people, including the Rev. Franklin Graham who was keynote speaker at the event.

Join the Elementary Chorale This Year . . .

CCS invites elementary students to join the Elementary Chorale. This popular after-school elective is open to
3rd - 5th grade students who enjoy singing and learning more about music.

Rehearsals are held after school Wednesdays afternoons,
2:30-3:30
pm. Additional rehearsals may be scheduled during the year as we prepare for special concerts and events. Chorale students will be dismissed from class at 2:25 pm on chorale days to report to the music room. Please pick up your child in the gravel parking lot across from the middle school at 3:30 pm.

This activity has no fee associated with it. The only cost to parents will be the cost of purchasing the concert attire which includes a monogrammed shirt and basic black trousers for boys and black skirts for girls.

If you have any questions, please call or email chorale director Angie Bacon, 706-315-7565.
